Men’s Soccer Suffers Defeat to Spartans

Lafayette Hill, PA – (9/13/2011) – Two St. Thomas Aquinas College goals, midway through the opening half, placed Chestnut Hill College behind a tough deficit heading to the closing frame. Unfortunately, the Spartans were too much for the Griffins tonight as they added a second-half score to secure the win, 3-0. Sophomore midfielder Mushe Wamulume (Media, PA) led the Griffins with three shots.
 
Play opened aggressive and physical, which eventually worked to the advantage of St. Thomas Aquinas College (3-0-2), who posted a 2-0 lead by the 30-minute mark (29:25). The Spartans continued to control play heading into intermission with a 15-4 shot advantage and a 4-0 edge in corner kick opportunities, but following the break the momentum evened out as Chestnut Hill College (2-1-1) was able to possess the ball more in their offensive end. Wamulume and fellow forwards, senior Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) and junior Darryl Richardson Jr. (Washington Township, NJ), put pressure on junior goalkeeper Andrew Tartara (Bardonia, NY), but the Spartans added another score and Tartara made all six saves needed to the collect the victory.
 
The Spartans were led by junior midfielder Remmington Lee (Hopewell Jct., NY) and sophomore midfielder Daniel Davren (Pearl River, NY). Each scored a first-half goal; Lee collected and scored a loose ball at 26:35, 1-0, and Davren completed a long cross at 29:25, 2-0. Freshman midfielder Sean Devito (Wantagh, NY) added the third Spartan goal at 82:06, off a cluster in front of the Griffin goal. Griffin Junior goalkeeper, Mike Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) made eight saves in the defeat (2-1-1).
 
The men's soccer team will visit the University of the District of Columbia on Thursday, September 15, for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
