Box Score Lafayette Hill, PA – (9/27/2011) – The women's soccer team went one up in the win column tonight with a 4-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Goldey-Beacom College. The Griffins scored two early first-half goals, before adding to their lead in the second half. Senior forward
Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) led the effort with five points; two goals and an assist.
Dribbling through the Goldey-Beacom College (3-3, 2-2) box, Riiff got Chestnut Hill College (5-4, 3-2) rolling with an unassisted tally just pas the seven-minute mark (7:09), 1-0. The next Griffin goals came only 50 seconds later with sophomore forward
Marykate McShane (Lebanon, PA) rebounding a Riiff shot to goal for the 2-0 advantage. The Lightning managed to hold the Griffins at bay for the remainder of the half, but following intermission the Griffins would find the goal twice more. Riiff touched a cross from sophomore forward
Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, NJ) at 52:37 to make it 3-0 and at 68:36, sophomore midfielder
Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, NJ) scored a chip pass from McShane to extend the Griffin lead to 4-0 with 21:24 remaining. The Lightning would get one goal to ruin the shutout, as freshman forward Alexandria Smith (Pennsville, NJ) scored a ball off the feed from sophomore forward Danielle Semenza (Hazelton, PA) at 73:01, 4-1.
Smith led the Lightning with five shots while goalkeepers, senior Kristin Degenhardt (Secaucus, NJ) and junior Alyssa Vetrano (Ocean, NJ), combined for four saves in the loss.
Riiff totaled six shots and brought her season goal total to nine with tonight's performance. Junior goalkeeper
Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) recorded four saves in the win (5-4).
The women's soccer team welcomes Caldwell College to campus on Saturday, October 1, for an 11:00 a.m. CACC contest.
