Goldstein and Defense Earn Draw with Vulcans

West Chester, PA – (9/3/2011) – Chestnut Hill College overcame a 20-6 shot differential and a 9-1 deficit in corner kick opportunities to tie California University (PA) 0-0 in this evening's contest at West Chester University. The Griffin defense forced countless Vulcan shots high and wide, while junior goalkeeper Mike Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) made all necessary stops and senior forward Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) ensured tournament advantage with a penalty kick conversion.
 
California University (PA) (0-0-1) held a slight advantage through regulation, but the Vulcans really put the pressure on in the extra period, outshooting Chestnut Hill College (0-0-1) 10-1 in overtime. Goldstein rose to the occasion, making three saves to preserve the stalemate. Junior midfielder Chris Moehler (Centreville, PA) led the Vulcans with five shots while sophomore forward Ryan Slaby (Pittsburgh, PA) and freshman forward Brad Colvin (Erie, PA) also kept Goldstein busy with four shots apiece. For tournament purposes, penalty kicks were held to determine standings. Goldstein denied a strike from senior forward Edin Sabic (Erie, PA), before Reid beat senior goalkeeper Charlie Dagnal (Carnegie, PA) for the penalty kick win. Dagnal made two saves.
 
The men's soccer team will remain at West Chester University to challenge the Golden Rams in a 4:00 p.m. contest tomorrow, Sunday, September 4.
