Millersvile, PA – (9/3/2011) – Two goals from sophomore midfielder Alyssa Grell (Mechanicsburg, PA) was the Griffins undoing this afternoon, as Millersville University defeated Chestnut Hill College by a 2-1 final. Grell netted the contest's opening goal at 24:39 to give the home team the halftime advantage. Senior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) briefly tied the contest at 62:20, 1-1, but the stalemate was short lived as Grell scored the game-winner just 27 second later (62:47).

 

In a highly competitive affair, only six shots made it on goal. Millersville University (2-0) was first to break through with Grell completing a pass from freshman forward Kelsey Mattola (Monkton, MD) midway through the first half. The game was a grind for the next 20 minutes, leaving the Marauders to a 1-0 halftime lead. Chestnut Hill College (0-2) responded in the second half when sophomore defender Brittany Boles (Broomall, PA) located Riiff for the Griffins first goal of the season, 1-1. Unfortunately, the contest did not stay tied for long as Grell struck again just 27 second later, 2-1. The Marauders held the Griffins scoreless for the remaining 27 minutes to collect the win for sophomore goalkeeper Laura Reed (Birdsboro, PA), who totaled one save. Griffin junior goalkeeper, Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) made two saves in defeat (0-2).
