After advancing the ball down the right side of the pitch, Chestnut Hill College (4-6-1, 2-3) scored on their ninth shot of the first half, when O'Connor fired a deep throw-in to an awaiting Channing crown at 35:30, 1-0. Darius Gbunblee (Philadelphia, Pa.). Making a tremendous effort, Gbunblee centered the ball back to Angulo, who drove it past the Lightning goalkeeper at 56:13, 2-0. Less than six minutes later (63:02), sophomore forward
Patrick Steger (La Plata, Md.) earned a penalty kick off a one-on-one with the Lightning goalkeeper. He converted the kick to put the Griffins up 3-0. With energy riding high, the Griffins scored again 2:46 later (65:48), when junior forward
Robert Stocklin (Haddonfield, N.J.) blocked and scored a clear by the Lightning goalkeeper. A fifth Griffin goal came in the 88
th minute (87:08), thanks to a twisting restart drive from junior midfielder

Four Lightning players recorded two shots apiece. In goal, senior Ignacio Farias (Marcay, Venezuela) and junior Carlos Meinhard (Caracas, Venezuela) both saw time, and split the Lightning's four saves. Farias played the bulk of the minutes (65:57) and took the loss.
