10/9/2012 11:19:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/9/2012) – Chestnut Hill College traveled down Henry Drive to visit Philadelphia University for another grueling Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. The Lady Rams got the early edge on their home field with a goal in the 19th minute and they added a second score before halftime only to defeat the Griffins by a 3-0 final.

Philadelphia University (9-4, 9-1) broke the scoreless stalemate on a great individual effort from junior midfielder Nicole Van Bourgondien (Southold, N.Y.), who fought through Chestnut Hill College (5-8, 5-3) defense to score from the left wing at 18:48, 1-0. The Lady Rams continued to control the pitch, building a 13-1 first half shot advantage and extending their lead to 2-0 just before halftime (44:03) on a connection between junior forward Andrea Curcio (Garnerville, N.Y.) and freshman forward Patrice Maro (Westmont, N.J.). The Griffins kept the contest a little tighter in the second half, but senior midfielder Melissa Copeland (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Sarah VanBuskirk (Fanwood, N.J.) combined for a late insurance goal, 3-0 (87:05) to deny the chance of a late rally.

Van Bourgondien and Copeland were two of three Lady Rams with four shots, while senior goalkeeper Kelli Kowalewski (Shamong, N.J.) earns the win without recording a save in the shutout.

Juniors, forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) and midfielder Stephanie Litty (Marlton, N.J.) each totaled two shots to lead the Griffin effort. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, Del.) made five saves in the loss (4-7).

The women's soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, September 13, with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Post University.
