9/22/2012 9:30:00 PM

Box Score Caldwell, N.J. – (9/22/2012) – Chestnut Hill College took the initial lead on a Caldwell College mishap, but the Cougars recovered with two second-half goals to defeat the Griffins 2-1 in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate College (CACC) contest. Junior forward Darryl Richardson Jr. (Washington Twp., N.J.) led the Griffins with three shots, but his effort was overmatched by a 22-10 Cougar shot advantage.

In an even-played first half, Chestnut Hill College (3-4-1, 1-2) reached halftime with the 1-0 advantage as a deep throw in during the 34th minute deflected off a Cougar player and found goal. After intermission, a more aggressive Caldwell College (2-4-1, 1-2) effort earned a penalty kick for senior forward Facundo Zalazar (Buenos Aires City, Argentina) at 58:07. Zalazar converted the kick to tie the affair 1-1, where it stayed for the next 23 minutes. At 81:11, a Cougars corner kick from senior defenseman Brendan Hughes (Lyndhurst, N.J.) found the head of sophomore defense Steve Petrosino (Toms River, N.J.) for the game-winner, 2-1.

Zalazar took seven shots, but only buried the one he needed for the Cougars to pull even. Hughes totaled four shots. In goal, freshman goalkeeper Michael Hartman (Medford, N.J.) made five saves for the win (2-4-1).

For the Griffins, sophomore forwards Channing Couillard (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomore forward Patrick Steger (La Plata, Md.) supported Richardson's effort with two shots apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper David Sullivan (Kutztown, Pa.) made six saves in the losing effort (3-4-1).

The men's soccer team returns home for a break from CACC play on Tuesday, September 25, with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Bloomsburg University.
