Nyack College Nixes Griffins Senior Day Celebration

10/20/2013 12:38:00 AM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (10/19/2013) – In a game of whistles and restarts it would be an early Nyack College goal that would be the difference in a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) final at Chestnut Hill College this afternoon. The Warriors earned the win on a successful corner kick restart at 2:18; the rest of the contest was evenly played with the Warriors and Griffins feuding until the final horn.

Nyack College (7-6-1, 4-4) pressured Chestnut Hill College (5-8-2, 4-4-1) off the initial kickoff. They struck the contest's first four shots, scoring on their third when sophomore midfielder Maxi Fuchs (Unterschleissheim, Germany) located graduate midfielder Tobias Reissing (Germany) with a corner kick serve just past the two-minute mark, 1-0. The Warriors maintained their momentum after the tally, but the competition remained tight with each side issuing several strikes at the opposing goal. Unfortunately, the Griffins were unable to find the back of the goal and dropped their fifth straight scoreless decision of the month.

The Warrior offense was led by four shots from Jakob Schwaritz (Rauen, Germany) and efforts of several others. Freshman goalkeeper Tom Lohman (Berlin, Germany) made four saves in the win (7-6-1).

In a 15-10 shot deficit, the Griffins were led by three shots from senior forward Mushe Wamulume (Media, Pa.) and two from junior forward Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia). Freshman goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) recorded five saves in the loss (5-7-1).

The men's soccer team plays next at Goldey-Beacom College, when the challenge the Lightning in a 4:00 p.m. CACC contest on Tuesday, October 22.
