Box Score East Stroudsburg, Pa. – (10/21/2013) – The Griffin defense withstood a barrage of shots from East Stroudsburg University this evening, but the offense did not keep their end of the deal as Chestnut Hill College could only postpone the Warriors to a 1-0 win. The homes side issued 30 shots with 12 meeting junior goalkeeper
Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) and the rest sailing high or wide, and one sneaking through in the 31
st minute.
The East Stroudsburg University (8-4-2) offense came in waves, launching series of shots at the Chestnut Hill College (4-9-1) goal during the early minutes, the 11-minute mark, and the thirty minute mark. The consistent pressure finally earned the Warriors the lead at 30:49, when freshman midfielder Shea Neal (Barto, Pa.) located sophomore forward Sammi Jo Hughes (Douglassville, Pa.) for the contest's lone goal.
Neal led the Warrior offense with six shots, but she had plenty of help with Hughes joining three others who also issued at least four attempts at the Griffin goal. Senior goalkeeper Brittain Wagner earned the shutout win (8-4-2).
The Griffins had two corner kick opportunities but were unable to take any shots on the Warrior net. The defense gave an impressive effort in support of Pauls as the combination limited the home side to only one successful strike.
The women's soccer team returns to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Wednesday, October 23, when they visit Holy Family University for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
