10/29/2013 10:11:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (10/29/2013) – In relentless pursuit of the Goldey-Beacom College goal, Chestnut Hill College missed several scoring opportunities and fired numerous shots before converting twice in the final 11 minutes win today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and season finale, 2-0. Junior midfielder Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) delivered the Griffins first goal on a rebound strike in the 80th minute and senior defender Lauren Nolte (Wilmington, Del.) scored the second on a strong strike in the 84th minute to help junior goalkeeper Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) earn her second shutout victory of the year.

Chestnut Hill College (5-11-1, 5-6-1) built momentum with every second that past as the Griffins squandered several scoring chances before finally finding the Goldey-Beacom College (2-11-1, 1-10-1) goal at 79:11. Senior forward Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) was a consistent threat for the Griffins, leading the team with nine shots, and setting up Williams for a rebound goal with a strike early in the 80th minute. Williams met the carom with a powerful blow that broke the Lightning spirit and encouraged the Griffin offense to produce more frequent assaults. The extra effort paid off at 83:47, when junior midfielder Kelly McKenna (Dover, Del.) kicked the ball back to Nolte, who drove it home from just off the left side. The 2-0 edge was more than enough for the Griffins as they continued to pressure the ball while needing only one save from Pauls to secure the victory.

Junior forward Alexandra Smith (Pennsville, N.J.) led the Lightning chances with three shots. Her classmate, Michelle Foster (West Berlin, N.J.) made nine saves and got some help from her defense (1 Team Save) in the loss.

DiGiovanni was the Griffins primary target, but with plenty of help an onslaught of shots eventually overwhelmed the Lightning defense. Williams was second with six shots while senior midfielder Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.) totaled four shots and consistently worked the wing to set up Nolte and several others.

The women's soccer team finishes the 2013 season at 5-11-1 overall and 5-6-1 in CACC play. They currently await the conclusion of the remaining CACC contest which will determine the remaining seeds for the upcoming league's championship tournament.
