11/4/2013 6:41:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (11/4/2013) – Urgency came to a crescendo as play approached the 65-minute mark of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Opening Round contest between Chestnut Hill College and Philadelphia University. The Griffins and Rams played a scoreless 66:58 before sophomore defenseman Angelo Dambalas (Marlton, N.J.) completed a corner kick serve from freshman midfielder Armando Canela (Marlborough, Mass.) to give the Rams the edge.

Meeting for the second time in five days, the tension rose with every second that with by, but neither side could find the goal on several hopeful strikes. Sophomore forward Ishmaiah Calwrie (Baltimore, Md.) and junior midfielder Victor Chagonda (Harare, Zimbabwe) offered three shots apiece to the Philadelphia University (10-7-1, 7-4-1) attack while Chestnut Hill College (7-10-2, 6-5-1) answered with volleys to freshman forward Charles O'Connell (Secaucus, N.J.) and strong assaults from freshman defenseman Nils Fussen (Aachen, Germany). After the halftime break the pressure mounted and the physicality escalated while a goal from the Rams got lost in the mix. After a series of yellow cards, the Rams took advantage of a corner kick restart that the Rams located to the scoring foot of Dambalas in the 67th minute. Play remained tight for the next five minutes with another series of yellow cards being followed by the Griffins fleeting attempts on the Ram goal.

The Rams spread 15 shots between ten strikers, but Dambalas was the only one to get the ball past freshman goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.). Junior goalkeeper Neil Kwiatkowski (Schenectady, N.Y.) recorded four saves in the Ram win (3-2).

O'Connell attempted four shots and Fussen added another two, to lead the Griffins offensive assaults. Jackson made three saves in the loss (7-9-1).

The men's soccer team finishes the 2013 season at 7-10-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the CACC.
