Box Score Waterbury, Conn. – (9/15/2013) – For the second straight game, a header from senior forward
Robert Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) stood as the Griffins lone goal, but today it was enough to defeat Post University, as Chestnut Hill College evened their season and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record with a 1-0 victory over the Eagles. After a shotless first half, the Griffins made the most of their second-half opportunities with junior forward
Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Columbia) finding Stocklin for a close-range header at 53.25.
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) was a key factor in the affair's opening half, as the Chestnut Hill College (2-2, 1-1) freshman goalkeeper made five saves on eight Post University (2-1, 0-1) shots, three sailing wide of the Griffin goal. The stalemate lasted past halftime, until 53:25, when Amaya lobbed a ball to Stocklin's awaiting head, 1-0. Defense was the key to the remaining game clock, as the Griffins frustrated the Eagles time-and-time again in a nine-shot, five corner kick, second half.
Sophomore forward Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) took five of those shots, but was unable to put any past Jackson and the Griffin defense. Senior goalkeeper Andre Lindsay (Claredon, Jamaica) recorded only one save in the loss (2-1).
Junior midfielder
Nicholas Jaffe (Sao Paulo, Brazil) attempted four of the Griffins five shots, but it was would be Stocklin's head that would account for the difference in today's game. Jackson totaled eight saves in his second shutout victory of the season (2-2).
The men's soccer team breaks from CACC play for their next contest; a 7:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled at Bloomsburg University on Wednesday, September 18.
