Box Score Waterbury, Conn. – (9/15/2013) – It was a big day for the Chestnut Hill College offense today, as the Griffins erupted for five second-half goals in a 5-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory at Post University. Senior forward Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) scored twice in the Griffins second-half run that also included goals from junior Kelly McKenna (Dover, Del.), senior midfielder Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.) and sophomore defender Christina Mangeri (Muttontown, N.Y.).

Post University (1-3, 0-1) was the recipient of an early lead thanks to an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.), 1-0, at 3:28. Playing against the deficit, Chestnut Hill College (1-3, 1-0) denied the Eagles any additional breathing room before McShane ignited the offense just after halftime, 1-1. Her unassisted tally was followed by three more great individual Griffin efforts, McKenna at 46:42, 2-1, and DiGiovanni twice, first at 49:17, 3-1, and again at 54:52, 4-1. Junior forward Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.) looked to get the Eagles back in the game with a score from the top of the box at 64:04, 4-2, but Griffins regained composure and fended off the Eagles before junior midfielder Morgan Fell (Boyertown, Pa.) found Mangeri for a last-minute insurance goal (89:02), 5-2.

Freshman forward Valarie Moore (Bloomfield, Conn.) came off the bench to record five of the Eagles 16 shots, but only Carroll was successful for the home team. Senior goalkeeper Grace McConnell (Leeds, England) made only one save in the loss (1-3).

McShane scored once on her team-high six shots. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) earned her first win of the season (1-3) with four saves in the victory.

The women's soccer team plays their next CACC contest on Saturday, September 21, when they visit Felician College for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
