9/28/2013 10:28:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (9/28/2013) – After senior forward Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity, Chestnut Hill College quickly extended their lead before defending Victory Field for a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) over Dominican College. DiGiovanni kept the Lady Chargers busy in the first half and junior goalkeeper Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) denied them a chance of a com back with 11 second-half saves.

On an early breakaway, Dominican College (2-3-1, 2-2) gained the initial advantage when junior forward Jennifer Becker (Hawthorne, N.J.) found senior forward Olivia Antonopoulos (Baldwin, N.Y.) in the center of the goal box at 11:45, 1-0. Answering the Lady Chargers call, Chestnut Hill College (2-4-1, 1-1-1) began asserting their game plan. DiGiovanni drew a penalty kick foul at 36:06 and scored it to knot the contest at 1-1. Keeping the pressure on, DiGiovanni first found her classmate, senior defender, Lauren Nolte (Wilmington, Del.) for a second Griffin goal at 37:15, 2-1, before taking a second penalty kick opportunity at 40:35. Unfortunately, she missed the chance to put the Griffins up by two, but with the advantage in hand the Griffins prepared to defend in the closing frame. The Lady Chargers tested the Griffins backline constantly in the second half, but came away empty handed in the loss.

Senior midfielder Jamilyn Snyder (Lacey, N.J.) led the Chargers with six shots, but only Antonopoulos could beat Pauls. Freshman goalkeeper Gina Yannette (Dumont, N.J.) made seven saves in the loss (2-3-1).

DiGiovanni totaled seven shots and junior midfielder Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) was not far behind with six atop the Griffin attack. Nolte scored on her only strike while Pauls stopped 14 of the Lady Chargers attacks in the victory (2-4-1).

The women's soccer team remains at home, but takes brief leave of their CACC schedule to host Dowling College in a 4:00 p.m. contest on Thursday, October 3.
