9/7/2013 10:24:00 PM

Box Score Millersville, Pa. – (9/7/2013) – Chestnut Hill College's chances came few and far between as Millersville University rattled off 14 shots in the first half and seven in the second half, overpowering the Griffins in a 5-1 win. Sophomore midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) and senior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) combined for the Griffins only score, an early second second-half breakaway that came as a result of Spinuzza's perfect pass.

Millersville University (2-0) scored three goals in the opening half, each coming unassisted. The first came just 5:45 into the period with junior midfielder Kristin Lepley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) splitting the Chestnut Hill College (0-1) defense. Their next strike came at 35:26, when freshman midfielder Victoria Kramer (Lititz, Pa.) increased the Marauder advantage to 2-0. A third goal at 40:33, 3-0, was enough to outlast the Spinuzza and Pizarro connection that followed the break, 3-1 (60:04). Unfortunately, the Griffins could not capitalize on the tally as the Marauders used two insurance goals that came in the final two minutes (69:50 and 88:05) to separate for a 5-1 win.

Lepley was the Marauders top target with four shots. Her effort was helped by the bench play of freshman attack Halie Parker (Womelsdorf, Pa.), who offered the last goal of the first half and assisted freshman forward Samantha Andel (Red Lion, Pa.) on the Marauders fourth goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Webber (Bernville, Pa.) made 12 saves in the winning effort (2-0).

Pizarro totaled two shots, while senior Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.), junior midfielder Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.), and Victoria Fioretti (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) accounted for the other Griffins assaults. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) made 12 saves in the loss (0-2).

The women's soccer team returns home to host Bloomsburg University in a 4:00 p.m. contest on Tuesday, September 10.
