10/21/2014 8:33:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (10/21/2014) – After a scoreless first half, Chestnut Hill College had their chance at Goldey-Beacom College early in the second frame. Unfortunately, the opportunity passed as the Lightning scored twice before the 80-minute mark to escape Victory Field #1 with a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win. Three Griffins recorded multiple shots while junior goalkeeper Kayla Reno (Catonsville, Md.) totaled 11 saves in the loss (1-3).

Goldey-Beacom College (6-4-1, 3-4-1) was the aggressor for a majority of the opening half as they outshot Chestnut Hill College (2-12, 2-8) 11-0 in the first frame. The Griffins did their best to deny the Lightning's strikes as they funneled four to the hands of Reno and seven others high or wide to keep the visitors off the scoreboard. A series of corner kicks around the 20-minute mark and a little pressure before halftime accounted for the Griffins first half successes, but they too came away empty handed in a scoreless period, 0-0.

After intermission, the Griffins began to gain some momentum. Just after the 53-minute mark, freshman forward Rachel Gilborges (Philadelphia, Pa.), freshman forward Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.), junior midfielder Victoria Fedora (East McKeesport, Pa.), and junior midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) inspired a series of possessions which resulted in the Griffins first three shots and a pair of corner kick restarts. But the Lightning soon recovered and eventually regained control of the contest when sophomore midfielder Jane Grimley (Franklinville, N.J.) chested a corner kick serve from fellow sophomore midfielder Lauren Devault (Woodstown, N.J.) to the back of the Griffin goal at 77:30, 1-0. They added an insurance goal just 1:37 later, extending their lead to 2-0 when senior forward Danielle Semenza (Hazle Township, Pa.) headed her own rebound into the net at 79:07, 2-0.

Freshman midfielder Amy Runciman (Luton, England) and junior forward Megan Harvis (Delran, N.J.) led the Lightning with five shots, but several others had a multiple chances in a 26-8 shot advantage. Sophomore goalkeeper Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, Texas) totaled three saves in the win (2-0).

Gilborges, Jazikoff, and Fedora recorded two shots apiece while Spinuzza and senior forward Kelly McKenna (Dover, Del.) accounted for the other two Griffin shots.

The women's soccer team hosts Bloomfield College on Saturday, October 25, in their final home CACC contest of the year. Prior to the start of the 1:00 p.m. contest, the Chestnut Hill College Department of Athletics will recognize the Griffins graduating class in an annual Senior Day ceremony
