Lions Last-Second Goal Leaves Griffins with CACC Tie

Box Score Lakewood, N.J. - (9/11/2014) – Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play was fierce at Georgian Court University, where a powerful blast from the Griffin captain Nicholas Jaffe (Sao Paulo, Brazil) gave Chestnut Hill College a 1-0 advantage with 8:49 remaining in the contest. But victory was stolen from the Griffins, who were forced to settle for a tie after a last-second goal (00:01) knotted the contest before two scoreless frame of overtime soccer, 1-1 (2OT).

In a physical league contest, Georgian Court University (0-1-2, 0-0-1) and Chestnut Hill College (0-2-1, 0-0-1) exchanged attacks for the opening 80 minutes of play. At 81:11, Jaffe completed a pass from senior forward Channing Couillard (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) with a mighty strike that delivered the Griffins a 1-0 advantage. But the Griffins were robbed of a crucial league win when junior defender Kevin Isvanditsch (Toms River, N.J.) set up a dramatic game-tying tally for sophomore forward Michael Clarke (Essex, U.K.), 1-1. In the extra frames, the contest remained tied despite several desperate assaults from Jaffe and company, who outshot the home team 5-2 in the final 20 minutes of overtime.
 
Clarke led the Lions with four shots while senior goalkeeper Ryan Gentil (Poseyville, Ind.) made five saves in the stalemate.
 
Jaffe led a 16-10 shot advantage with five strikes; four others recorded at least two attempts on goal for the Griffins. Sophomore goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) (0-2-1) made four saves.   
 
The men's soccer team continues their CACC schedule with their home opener; a 3:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, September 13.
