Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/13/2014) – With the rain settling in just before kickoff, Chestnut Hill College welcomed Post University to Victory Field #1 for today's home opener. The Eagles appeared to be better prepared for the weather as three lofty serves were retrieved and scored by senior forward Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.), whose natural hat-trick propelled the visitors to a 6-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory.
Post University (3-1, 2-0) employed a dump-and-chase offense early with Dennis retrieving the volleys and beating the Chestnut Hill College (0-3, 0-2) defenders for goals at 3:38, 14:06, and 20:34, 3-0. The Eagles scored a fourth goal before halftime, coming on an easy rebound touch by senior defender Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.), 4-0 (39:31). After intermission, the weather continued to give the Griffins problems as a turnover and a deflection off the keeper pushed the margin to 6-0 in the closing seconds (89:41).
Dennis set the pace for the Eagles. Sophomore midfielder Sylvia Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) offered a goal and an assist while junior goalkeepers Brittany Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) (3-1) and Laura Morgan (Brush Prairie, Wash.) split halves and combined for three saves.
Sophomore forward
Alissa Battaglia (Merrick, N.Y.) was responsible for four of the Griffins ten shots. Senior midfielder
Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) took three. Two came from junior midfielder
Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) and the last one from senior midfielder
Victoria Fioretti (Pt. Pleasant Beach, N.J.). Senior goalkeeper
Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) totaled five saves in the loss (0-3).
The women's soccer team returns to action Tuesday, September 16, when they visit Bloomsburg University for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
