Jaffe Sparks Griffins to Second CACC Shutout

9/20/2014 4:54:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/20/2014) – For the second time in three games, senior midfielder Nicholas Jaffe (Sao Paulo, Brazil) accounted for all three goals to lead the Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe. This time, it was visiting Felician College who fell victim to the Griffin onslaught, 3-0.

Jaffe, who entered Saturday's game second in the CACC in points (8), netted a goal of his own and assisted on two others to help keep Chestnut Hill College (2-3-1, 2-0-1) unbeaten in league play. The captain started his latest stellar performance by assisting on the first goal of the season for senior forward Channing Couillard (Atlantic Beach, Fla.), who opened the scoring with a strike from the left corner of the box at 24:20, 1-0. Jaffe, who had two goals and an assist in last Saturday's 3-0 shutout of #25 Post University, then eluded two Felician College (0-7, 0-3) defenders in the box, deftly freeing himself to roof a left-footed strike to the top of the net for a 2-0 Griffin advantage at 68:34. At the 83:25 mark, he sent a pass across the box in the direction of senior midfielder Georges Beyiha (Yaoundé, Cameroon), who let the ball slide by and into the waiting left foot of senior forward Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia) for an easy finish, 3-0.

Jaffe, who now has four goals and four assists on the season, has had a foot in all but one of the nine goals scored by Chestnut Hill College in 2014.

The Griffins controlled play throughout and finished with a 15-8 shot advantage, with Amaya and Couillard each recording five. Jaffe attempted three shots, while senior defenseman Dominic Pernice (Lewis, Del.) recorded two.

Sophomore goalie James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) made one save in earning his second shutout of the season, and the Griffin backline of senior David Schlentz (West Chester, Pa.) and sophomores Nils Fussen (Aachen, Germany) and Ricardo Luna III (Odenton, Md.) helped keep the Golden Falcons off the scoreboard. Senior midfielder Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico) led the Felician College attack with three shots, while senior Jonathan Mensah (Accra, Ghana) and junior Kevin Cueva (Lumberton, N.J.) each took two.

The Griffins continue their CACC slate on Wednesday, September 24, with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Wilmington University (Del.).
