Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/20/2014) – It was an afternoon of firsts for the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team, which picked up its first victory of the season on the foot of freshman midfielder
Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.), who netted her first career goal at 33:40 to power the Griffins to a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over visiting Felician College.
Chestnut Hill College (1-4, 1-2) was outshot, 16-10, by Felician College (2-2-2, 1-1-1), but the Griffins made the most of their opportunities and held on late to break into the win column. Jazikoff provided the game's lone goal off a corner by senior forward
Morgan Fell (Boyertown, Pa.). Fell's service bounced around in the box before Jazikoff lunged at it with her right foot, getting just enough of the ball to direct it past Felician College goalie Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.), who got her fingertips on it but could not keep it out of the net as Chestnut Hill College grabbed their first lead of the season.
The Griffins made it stand up thanks to senior goalie
Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.), who saved five shots for her third career shutout. Pauls dove to parry a well-struck free kick by Golden Falcons junior Marissa Nieves (Brick, N.J.), a high school teammate of Jazikoff, at 78:31, and withstood a fierce attack by the visitors in the final minutes with the help of the backline anchored by sophomore
Annalyse Culp (Clayton, N.J.) and senior
Melissa Marotta (Forked River, N.J.). Seniors
Dakota Sheehan (Atco, N.J.) and
Lauren Sitler (Douglasville, Pa.) contributed to the defensive effort, along with several others, while junior midfielder
Victoria Fedora (East McKeesport, Pa.) also made several nice plays at that end of the field.
Sophomore
Alissa Battaglia (Merrick, N.Y.) and junior
Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) each recorded a pair of shots to match Jazikoff. Freshman Amanda Nowak (Lyndhurst, N.J.) led Felician College with four shots, while classmate Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J.) and senior Jordan Farley (Brick, N.J.) attempted three apiece.
The Griffins seek back-to-back CACC victories on Tuesday, September 23, when they travel to Wilmington University (Del.) for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
