Chestnut Hill Serves As Lesser of Two Griffins in Second Day at Shippensburg University Soccer Classic

9/7/2014 2:58:00 PM

Box Score Shippensburg, Pa. - (9/7/2014) – Chestnut Hill College left the Shippensburg University Soccer Classic empty handed, as Seton Hill University won the battle between Griffins by a 2-0 margin. Seton Hill University relied on an early advantage to secure the win, scoring their first goal just five minutes in (5:05) and adding insurance a little before the 30-minute mark. Nine different Chestnut Hill College players took a try at junior goalkeeper Cameron Evans (Bedfordshire, Great Britain), who denied five of them and watched seven of them sail high or wide in the shutout victory.

It did not take long for Seton Hill University (1-0-1) to steal the momentum as graduate forward Joe Tchimou (Gaithersburg, Md.) converted a cross from junior midfielder Trevor Martz (Greensburg, Pa.) at 5:05 of the opening frame. They kept busy James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.), unfortunately the Chestnut Hill College (0-2) sophomore goalkeeper could not hold off the Griffins, who added a second goal at 29:29. The insurance came on a rebound as sophomore forward Rory McKinnon (Paisley, Scotland) converted a botched clear off the original strike of sophomore midfielder Ben Alport (Yorkshire, Great Britain). Looking to cut the deficit before halftime, a frustrated Chestnut Hill College went offsides four times before the break. After intermission, Seton Hill University controlled the contest, putting the Griffins on their heels with some early shots and rebuffing a late rallying effort.

Alport was one of three Seton Hill University Griffins with at least three shots. They totaled 17 in all while matching the Griffins in corner kick opportunities. Senior forward Channing Couillard (Atlantic Beach, Fla.), sophomore defenseman Nils Fussen (Aachen, Germany), and freshman midfielder Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) each recorded two shots for Chestnut Hill College, who got three saves from Jackson (0-2).

The men's soccer team opens up their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with their next road contest on Thursday, September 11, when they visit Georgian Court University for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
