10/17/2015 6:41:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/17/2015) – Chestnut Hill College found themselves in their defensive end for a majority of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest as an aggressive Caldwell University attack, led by senior defender Sarina Soriano (San Jose, Calif.), outshot the Griffins 27-9 in a 2-0 victory. Freshman midfielder Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.) was the Griffins' top performer, recording three shots while senior goalkeeper Kayla Reno (Pasadena, Md.) made 11 saves in the loss (3-7-1).

Despite a relentless pursuit, Caldwell University (7-6-1, 6-1-1) was unable to break the Chestnut Hill College (4-7-1, 2-6-1) defenses until after the ten minute mark. At 10:40, a deflected Cougar corner kick landed at the feet of Soriano, who connected for a goal at the far post, 1-0. With the lead in hand the visitors continued to pressure the Griffin net, outshooting the home side 17-2 in the opening half. Fortunately, Reno was solid in goal, making ten saves and holding the deficit until the final eight minutes of play. The Cougars insurance tally came at 82:23, when freshman forward Jessica LaConde (Huntington Beach, Calif.) caused a turnover in the Griffins' defensive end and found fellow freshman forward Emily Valerian (Roseland, N.J.) for a wide open shot on goal, 2-0.

Soriano controlled the midfield for the Cougars, leading the team with a game-high seven shots. Valerian added five shots while freshman goalkeeper Mary Kanzler (East Northport, N.Y.) made four saves in the win (7-6-1).

Complimenting Ferrell's effort, senior midfielders Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) and Courtney Weidner (Philadelphia, Pa.) took two shots apiece while fellow senior midfielder Victoria Fedora (East McKeesport, Pa.) and freshman midfielder Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) were responsible for the other two.

The women's soccer team plays next at Holy Family University on Wednesday, October 21, when they travel down Roosevelt Boulevard for a 4:00 p.m. CACC contest.
