Bloomsburg Breaks Through, Edges Griffins in Rainy Non-Conference Tilt

10/28/2015 5:30:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/28/2015) – A valiant defensive effort by the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team eventually gave way to a Bloomsburg University deluge in a 1-0 non-conference setback this afternoon. The Griffins were outshot by a 22-2 count on rain-soaked Victory Field #1 but managed to stay on level ground until junior midfielder Allie Camp (Beavertown, Pa.) rocketed the game-winner at 55:18.

Bloomsburg University (10-6-1) put Griffins senior goalkeeper Kayla Reno (Pasadena, Md.) under a barrage from the opening kick, forcing her to make six first-half saves to keep Chestnut Hill College (4-9-2) in contention. The Scarlet and Gold managed only a shot by sophomore forward Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) at the 4:50 mark.

Reno made two more saves in the early stages of the second half, but the dam finally broke just over 10 minutes past intermission. Freshman midfielder Toula DeLeon (East Meadow, N.Y.) put a short pass on the feet of Camp, who took a touch and sent a powerful blast on net, the ball slipping through Reno's hands to give the visitors the edge they needed. Senior midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) took aim at 67:18, but her effort was blocked and the Griffins never threatened again.

Freshman forward Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa.) led all players with six shots for the Huskies, who also got four from senior forward Ashley Sanchez (Lyndhurst, Pa.). Freshman goalie Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa.) recorded her seventh shutout of the season (10-6-1) despite going without a save.

Jazikoff and Spinuzza were the only Griffins to notch a shot. Reno (3-9-2) finished with 11 saves, one off her career high, for the third time this season.

Chestnut Hill College closes the regular season against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and crosstown rival Philadelphia University on Friday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m.
