Women’s Soccer Explodes in Second Half to Corral Lady Chargers

10/3/2015 3:41:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/3/2015) – The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team broke out of a scoring slumber in a big way this morning, erupting for three unanswered goals over the final 26:18 of game time to post a 3-1 victory over visiting Dominican College (NY). Junior defender Annalyse Culp (Clayton, N.J.) broke the dam with the first goal of her career and senior midfielder Victoria Fedora (East McKeesport, Pa.) pumped in the eventual game-winner, her first of the season, with 18:46 remaining as the Griffins snapped a five-game skid and four-game shutout streak in style.

Chestnut Hill College (4-6, 2-5) fell behind right out of the halftime break when Dominican College (0-7, 0-5) senior defender Katie Burrell (New City, N.Y.) took a touch on a through ball from sophomore defender Kim Koeder (Schwaebisch Hall, Germany) in the box and sent an angled shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage (45:43).

Undaunted despite the deficit and miserable conditions, the Griffins roared back starting at the 26:18 mark of the second period. That's when Culp opened her Chestnut Hill College account with a tap-in off a shot by Fedora, whose booming effort in the middle of the box was saved but fell right in front of her for an easy finish and a tying tally, 1-1 (63:42). Upping the pressure, the Scarlet and Gold cracked the Lady Charger back line again less than eight minutes later, when Fedora zoomed in on a long run down the right side and slotted one past Dominican College freshman keeper Angelica Contreras (Baytown, Texas) for a 2-1 Griffin lead at 71:14.

Chestnut Hill College tacked on another for good measure, striking an insurance tally off the foot of sophomore forward Anna Abbot (Sicklerville, N.J.), who deposited the rebound of a strong effort by senior forward Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) into a wide-open net at 83:56 for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Griffins recorded a 14-5 shot discrepancy in the second half, paving the way for a 17-8 game advantage. Keimig and freshman midfielder Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) had four apiece, with Keimig providing her first career point on the assist of Abbot's goal. Fedora (three shots) logged her fourth career multi-point game with a goal and an assist, and senior goalkeeper Kayla Reno (Pasadena, Md.) registered four saves to earn the win (4-6).

Sophomore defender Kaitlyn Montera (New City, N.Y.) led Dominican College with three shots, while Contreras (0-7) made five saves between the pipes.

Chestnut Hill College has another morning match scheduled for next Saturday, October 10, this one a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup at Bloomfield College. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
