Box Score Waterbury, Conn. - (9/19/2015) – An early own goal (10:44) augured an uphill battle in the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Post University this afternoon, as the Eagles tacked on four more of their own to run away with a 5-0 victory.
The inauspicious start spiraled for Chestnut Hill College (3-3, 1-2), which managed just two shots against a stout Post University (3-3, 3-0) defensive front. Given a quick lead, the Eagles went to work on expanding it, first with senior defender Valerie Moore (Bloomfield, Conn.) doubling the bulge on a 25-yard rocket (26:24).
Sophomore midfielder Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) turned the rest of the game into her own personal showcase, notching three goals over the next 38:20 of game time. Her free kick from 15 yards out made it a 3-0 margin (30:50), and Mertz continued her run with a pair of second-half strikes. She scored off a rebound at the 56:46 mark before converting a penalty kick to provide the final margin (5-0) at 65:04.
Mertz needed only four shots to collect her hat trick, and senior goalkeeper Laura Morgan (Brush Prairie, Wash.) stopped the only shot that came her way to post her third consecutive shutout (3-3). The Eagles have yet to concede a goal in conference play.
Senior forward
Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) and senior midfielder
Victoria Fedora (East McKeesport, Pa.) accounted for the only Chestnut Hill College shots, and classmate
Kayla Reno (Pasadena, Md.) made five saves in the setback (3-3).
After six games away from Victory Field #1, the Griffins finally open their home schedule on Wednesday, September 23, against Georgian Court University. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
