Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/1/2016) – Chestnut Hill College junior forward Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) ripped home the game-winning goal in the 68th minute to lead the Griffins to their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the season, topping the Concordia College (NY) Clippers, 1-0, at Victory Field #1 on Saturday afternoon.

Chestnut Hill College (2-7, 1-5 CACC) jumped out of the gate quickly, with junior forward Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England) snapping a shot on net just over a minute (1:11) into the game. The game tilted in the visitors favor from there, with Concordia College (5-4, 4-2 CACC) earning seven corner kicks over the remainder of the half. The Griffins' defense held strong, however, with senior goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) helping keep the score 0-0 entering the halftime break.

The Clippers opened the second stanza able to work the ball into the attacking end, but Jackson stood tall, parrying away the visitor's best chances to keep the game scoreless. The Clippers nearly broke through following a great individual effort by graduate student Ovan Oakley (Kingston, Jamaica), but Jackson blocked back-to-back shots from point-blank range in the 65th minute (64:25, 64:29). The Griffins seized the momentum from that point on, finally breaking through in the 68th minute (67:06). Casaletto took the ball deep down the left hand side, and slipped a pass to junior midfielder Charles Simpson (Dalgety Bay, Scotland) who one touched the ball back to Casaletto who ripped a shot into the upper left corner for the 1-0 edge.

The game got noticeable more physical over the final 32 minutes, with numerous yellow cards being handed out on both sides. Concordia College (NY) was able to mount some pressure late, but the defense again held strong, allowing the hosts to emerge with the 1-0 victory.

Jackson (2-7) turned aside six shots to earn the shutout. Gray led the Griffins with three shots, with Casaletto scoring on his only shot of the game.

Oakley led the Clippers with five shots, while sophomore goalkeeper Jaime Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) made three stops in the defeat.

The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer season resumes CACC play when they host Holy Family University on October 5, at 7:00 p.m.
