Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/10/2016) – In a game when chances were few and far between, both Chestnut Hill College and Chowan University were able to convert on a corner kick, battling to a 1-1 double overtime stalemate in non-conference action at Victory Field # 1 on Monday afternoon.

Chestnut Hill College (2-8-2) attacked early and often, with junior forward Morgan Ruth (Blackwood, N.J.) and sophomore midfielder Molly Sullivan (Pasco, Wash.) each testing Chowan University (6-5-1) sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Borer (Malabar, Fla.), in the opening 2:26. The Griffins would continue to mount pressure, securing a corner for junior midfielder Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.) in the seventh minute. Cobb-Wilkins served a beautiful ball off the corner kick, which Sullivan found in a crowd with her head, snapping the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The two teams would trade scoring chances for the remainder of the half, but Borer and Chestnut Hill College freshman goalkeeper Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) were both up to the task, keeping the game at 1-0 entering halftime.

The second half started off slowly, with neither team able to sustain any pressure in their offensive end. Trailing by one late, the Hawks began to increase the pressure, scoring a corner kick for sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Imamura (Valdosta, Ga.). Imamura sent the ball into the box where it bounced to the back post and right to sophomore forward Kimberly Surio (Los Angeles, Calif.) who calmly nodded the ball in to knot the game at one apiece with just over two minutes remaining (2:17).

The game would take a noticeably different tone from that point forward, with both teams having players removed due to receiving red cards. With the Hawks down one player and the Griffins down two, the game went into extra time knotted at 1-1.

The Hawks came out firing in the first overtime, with Peshkin turning aside several quality chances to keep the game tied following the first 10 minutes of extra time. The Griffins nearly won the game in the 105th minute, but a pair of shots from freshman midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.) were stopped. Chowan University freshman forward Rebekah Beal (Rocky Mount, N.C.) recorded the best chance in extra time, going in on a partial breakaway against Peshkin. Peshkin came out of her net, cutting down the angle, and grabbed the shot with both hands to keep the game tied and secure the tie.

Peshkin (0-2-1) recorded a career-best nine saves in the tie, with Sullivan scoring her goal off a team-best five shots.

Borer (6-5-1) made six saves for the visitors, with Imamura notching a team-best five shots and one assist on the day.

The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team will continue non-conference play when they host The Lincoln University on Wednesday, October 12 at 4:00 p.m.
