Box Score Nyack, N.Y. - (10/15/2016) – Chestnut Hill College used a late goal to force extra time, but it wouldn't be enough, as the Nyack College Warriors scored in the 106th minute of the contest to earn a pivotal Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory, 2-1 (2OT), on Saturday afternoon.

The game was a defensive struggle in the opening 20 minutes, with each squad registering one shot. Nyack College (6-7, 5-4 CACC) would be granted an opportunity in the 24th minute (23:31), when a foul in the Chestnut Hill College (4-8, 3-6 CACC) box led to a penalty kick for the Warriors. Sophomore defender Finn Reese (Winsen, Germany) calmly stepped up to take the PK, punching it home for his eight goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.

The hosts nearly doubled their lead in the 37th minute (36:47), but a shot by junior forward Samuel Viau (Stormville, N.Y.) caromed off the post to keep the Griffins' deficit at just one. The Scarlet and Gold had a chance of their own in the closing stages of the first half, but a shot by junior midfielder Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) was turned away by Nyack College sophomore goalkeeper Wiktor Lasota (Lodz, Poland), to keep the score at 1-0 entering the half.

The Griffins continued to mount pressure in the opening stages of the second half, with sophomore forward Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) and junior defender Jordan Arpan (Exton, Pa.) both registering quality shots that were turned aside by Lasota. The Griffins' persistence paid off, with Doherty netting the equalizer in the 80th minute penalty kick. The Warriors would generate a corner late in the contest, but their header went wide of the net, sending the game into extra time knotted at one apiece.

The first 10-minute period of extra time proved fruitless, as neither team was able to generate any scoring opportunities. Viau nearly secured the game-winner in the 105th minute (104:13), but his header was stymied by senior goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.). The Warriors would continue to mount the pressure as the game creeped into the final five minutes, finally being rewarded a throw-in in the 106th minute (105:53).  A long throw was skipped on by Viau to senior midfielder Andrew Kupp (Galloway, N.J.) who was able to find the back of the net, giving the Warriors the 2-1 double overtime victory.

Jackson (4-8) made two saves in the loss, with Doherty leading the offense with one goal on three shots.

Lasota (6-6) made three saves in the victory, with Viau leading the offensive charge with one assist on four shots.

The Griffins resume CACC play on Tuesday, October, 19, when they visit Georgian Court University for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off.
