Box Score Nyack, N.Y. - (10/15/2016) – Propelled by one goal in each half, the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team continued their unbeaten streak, topping Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Nyack College, 2-0, this afternoon.
Nyack College (6-8, 6-4 CACC) opened the game applying enormous pressure to the Chestnut Hill College (4-8-2, 2-6-1 CACC) backline, earning back-to-back corner kicks in the sixth minute. The Warriors would continue to apply pressure with graduate student midfielder Charlotte Barnham (London, England) snapping a shot on goal that was turned aside by junior goalkeeper

The Griffins generated their first opportunity of the game in the 15
th minute off a corner kick of their own. Sophomore midfielder
Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.) redirected a cross with her head that was stopped by Nyack College sophomore goalkeeper Julianna Kranes (Montgomery, N.Y.). The Scarlet and Gold continued to apply pressure earning their second corner kick of the day for junior defender
Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.). Following a scramble in the box after the corner, the ball found its way to sophomore midfielder
Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) who was able to head it in from two yards out for the 1-0 lead. The hosts would continue to apply pressure, registering four more shots in the half (two on goal), which Guagenti was able to turn away to keep the Griffins up 1-0 heading into the halftime break.
Nyack College held a 6-2 edge in shots for the half, with the Griffins maintaining a 4-1 advantage in saves.
Chestnut Hill College looked to double their advantage in the 51
st minute (50:33) on a shot by Ferrell, but Kranes stood tall, stopping the shot and keeping the score at 1-0. Neither team dominated the middle portion of the second half, with both squads failing to test the opposing goalkeeper.
The Griffins would make a late substitution that would pay immediate dividends. Freshman midfielder
Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) came on in the 73
rd minute (72:08) to spell Ferrell. The substitution would pay off just over a minute later (73:15) as O'Toole would send a long pass into the box that DiRugeris was able to get to before the keeper to double the Griffins' advantage to two, 2-0.
The Warriors would mount a late surge, peppering the Chestnut Hill College backline with three shots over the final six minutes, but the defense held strong, allowing the Griffins to move their unbeaten streak to five games. (3-0-2).
Guagenti (3-6-1) turned aside seven shots in the shutout victory. O'Toole led the offense with one goal and one assist for three points on the afternoon.
Kranes (6-7) made two saves in the loss, with freshman defender Brianna Sparrow (Cherry Hill, N.J.) leading the attack with four shots on the day.
The Griffins continue CACC play when they travel to Georgian Court University on Tuesday, October 18. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
