Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/25/2016) – With the eighth seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament on the line, Chestnut Hill College traveled down Henry Avenue for a 2:30 p.m. league game at Ravenhill Field. After an early Ram goal (13:58) the Griffins spent a majority of the contest searching for the equalizer. Senior defenseman
Joseph McGuigan (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored it at 49:19, glancing a corner restart from junior midfielder
Vini Brito (Sao Paulo, Brazil) off his back and into the Philadelphia University goal. The stalemate endured regulation, allowing a header from junior defenseman Valdo Jean-Baptiste (Guadeloupe, France) to end the contest at 95:17 in the home team's favor, 2-1.
Chestnut Hill College (5-10, 4-8) offered the contest's first two shots just after the eight-minute mark, but Philadelphia University (6-9-2, 5-6-1) achieved the afternoon's first set piece and made use of it with a tap to goal from sophomore midfielder Devon Memis (Ambler, Pa.) at 13:58 (1-0). Evenly matched, the Griffins and Rams traded possessions for the remainder of the first half. After intermission, the Scarlet and Gold controlled the initial action and used a pair of corner kick restarts to tie the contest at 49:19 (1-1). Brito found McGuigan for the excuse-me goal, sliding his serve down the defenseman's back for a redirection and the game-tying goal.
Still, the contest remained competitive. As time wore off the second-half clock each side squandered opportunities, precipitating the extra frame. Midway through, a Chestnut Hill College foul provided Philadelphia University with a restart in the Griffins' end. The ally from senior midfielder Seiji Rose (Toulouse, France) was completed by Jean Baptiste, who out-jumped the Scarlet and Gold defense for the golden goal at 95:17 (2-1).
Philadelphia University spread their 13 shots among eight different players. Both Memis and Jean-Baptiste scored on their only opportunities. Junior goalkeeper Eric Gutierrez (Croydon, Pa.) (3-8-2) made three saves.
Senior defenseman
Nils Fussen (Aachen, Germany) led the Griffins in shots with three. Brito offered two while seven others accounted for the other seven shots. Senior goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) (5-10) made three saves.
The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team finishes the 2016 season at 5-10 overall and 4-8 in CACC play.
