Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/8/2016) – The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team made it three league wins in a row this afternoon, as they endured Bloomfield College and the steady rain for a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. A rematch of last year's CACC title bout, the Griffins and Bears pushed each other to the limit in a physical 90-minute affair. Luckily, a deep Scarlet and Gold throw-in from sophomore defenseman
Jordan Arpan (Exton, Pa.) found junior forward
Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England) in good position. The Bears' reaction triggered a whistle in the box and placed junior midfielder
Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) on the penalty kick hash for a game-winning strike at 64:33.
Bloomfield College (3-6-2, 2-4-2) was the aggressor early, outshooting Chestnut Hill College (4-7, 3-5) 10-5 in the opening period. Senior goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) was up to the task, stopping four himself while his defensive line forced the rest of the Bear attempts high or wide of the Griffin goal. The contest reached halftime scoreless, 0-0, only escalating the combatants' desperation in the latter frame.
The second half began with a series of yellow cards, which eventually brought about the Griffins' game-winner. Just under 20 minutes (64:33) into the concluding frame, Gray settled Arpan's throw at the mouth of the Bear goal. Dragged to the turf by a defender, he garnered the foul call and offered the free kick to the Scarlet and Gold's leading scorer. Casaletto made good on the opportunity, blasting the ball past junior goalkeeper Jovan Stanojkovic (Pancevo, Serbia) for the 1-0 edge. As the rain died down, so did the physical play. Chestnut Hill College gradually silenced the Bloomfield College attack over the final 25 minutes, escaping Victory Field #1 with a much-needed CACC win.
Bloomfield College finished with a 16-11 shot advantage; senior forward Amin Miller (Mondeville, Jamaica) took three while nine other combined for the other dozen (12). Stanojkovic (0-1) totaled three saves and needed some help from his defense for the fourth Bear stop of the afternoon.
Gray totaled four shots and Casaletto three, while Arpan and junior midfielder
Charles Simpson (Dalgety Bay, Scotland) evenly split the other four Griffin shots. Jackson (4-7) made seven saves.
The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team returns to action next Saturday, October 15, when they visit Nyack College for a 2:30 p.m. CACC contest.
