Morgan Ruth (Blackwood, N.J.) and
Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) each netted a goal as the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team earned a 2-2, double-overtime tie against Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played at Victory Field #1 this afternoon.
Chestnut Hill College (2-8-1, 1-6-1) wasted no time establishing a lead in the contest, with Ruth scoring in the 12
th minute (11:47). Ruth tamed a loose ball down the right side, cut back to the middle and ripped a shot that beat the goalkeeper to the right side of the net. Bloomfield College (0-10-1, 0-7-1 CACC) would answer back in the 23
rd minute (22:17), when freshman defender Courtney Brancato (East Brunswick, N.J.) beat the defense down the right-hand side and sent a cross into the box that deflected off a Griffins defender and into the net for an own goal.
The Scarlet and Gold would reclaim the lead in the 43
rd minute (42:22) when Jazikoff scored her unassisted tally. Beating the defender on the edge of the 18-yard box, Jazikoff chipped a shot into the top right corner for the 2-1 lead heading into the halftime break.
The Griffins held an 8-4 edge in shots during the half, while also maintaining a narrow 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
The second half proved to be a goaltending duel, with Chestnut Hill College junior
Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) and Bloomfield College freshman Adeline Argabrite (Bloomfield, N.J.) standing tall for their respective sides. The Bears would knot the game at 2-2 in the 75
th minute (74:54) when freshman midfielder Stephanie Rivera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was able to find the back of the net. The teams would trade possession over the final 15 minutes, but neither could break through, sending the game into extra time.
The Griffins would dominate both extra periods, outshooting the Bears 5-2, but Argabrite stood tall, keeping the Griffins off the scoreboard to earn the tie for the visitors.
Guagenti (2-6-1) turned aside two shots in the contest, while Jazikoff and Ruth provided the offense, each netting a goal. The Griffins held a 22-8 advantage in shots for the game and an 8-6 lead in corner kicks.
Argabrite (0-5-1) stopped four shots in 65:00 minutes of work, after spelling sophomore Emira Sela (Staten Island, N.Y.) who stopped four shots of her own in the first half. Rivera provided the offense for the Bears with one goal on two shots, with Brancato posting a pair of shots as well.
The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team will return action on Monday, October 10, when they host non-conference foe Chowan University at 1:00 p.m.
