Post University Defeats Chestnut Hill College 3-2 in CACC Opener

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/10/2016) – Chestnut Hill College was first to score, doing so twice in the first half to hold a 2-1 advantage over Post University at halftime of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season opener. But the Eagles scored last in the first half and carried the momentum into the second half, outshooting the Griffins 11-4 in the frame and knotting the contest at 47:23 (2-2). Their game-winner came 8:48 into the overtime period, as they defeated the Scarlet and Gold, 3-2, when senior forward Sylvia Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) freed herself for a successful one-on-one with the keeper.
 
Chestnut Hill College (1-2, 0-1) won the first half with a 2-1 lead on an 8-4 shooting advantage. Sophomore midfielder Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.) netted the first Griffin goal, one-touching a right side cross from freshman forward Cecilia DuMond (Philadelphia, Pa.) at 11:53 (1-0). The second Griffin goal came a little more than 20 minutes later, when junior forward Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) completed a short serve from junior midfielder Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.) at 32:34 (2-0). Post University (1-2, 1-0) managed to cut the deficit in half before intermission, using a quality pass from junior forward Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) to set freshman midfielder Hope Wilson (Mahopac, N.Y.) for a prosperous strike from center pitch at 33:04 (2-1).
 
After the break, the Eagles took the edge, putting the pressure on the Scarlet and Gold defense with an 11-4 shot advantage and a 5-3 corner kick lead. The result was a game-tying goal at 47:23 (2-2), as a header from Yanez redirected the ball to the foot of freshman Erika Signorile (Sayreville, N.J.) for a touch to the back of the goal. The contest went scoreless through the remainder or regulation, triggering golden-goal play. There, DuMond took a pair of shots, but the Eagles emerged victorious at 98:48, when Yanez completed her game-winning breakaway.
 
Yanez and Signorile each recorded five shots to lead the Eagles 18-14 shot advantage. Sophomore goalkeeper Cailah Baranowski (Naugatuck, Conn.) (1-2) made seven saves in the victory.

DuMond and sophomore Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) each totaled four shots for Chestnut Hill College. Junior goalkeeper Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) (1-2) recorded eight saves.

The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team continues their league schedule on Wednesday, September 14, when they visit Wilmington University for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
