9/13/2016 10:21:00 PM

Box Score Newark, Del. - (9/13/2016) – Chestnut Hill College traveled to Wilmington University for today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. There, the Wildcats claimed revenge on last season's CACC Semifinal verdict by defeating the Griffins, 5-0, behind an efficient offensive game plan. Four members of the Scarlet and Gold combined to fire five shots, sophomore midfielder Tyler Johnson (Howell, N.J.) led the effort with a pair.

Wilmington University (3-0, 1-0) gained the momentum over Chestnut Hill College (0-4, 0-2) as play neared the seventh minute. A pair of Wildcat corner kicks started the sea change, which manifested with a goal at 15:35 (1-0). A touch pass down the left side found senior midfielder Juan Bernal (Mississauga, Ontario) ten feet out for a shot to the far post. The Wildcats scored again at 24:28 (2-0) and twice more before intermission to hold a 4-0 halftime lead over the Griffins. A more aggressive second half effort saw the Griffins outshoot the Wildcats 4-2 in the frame. But a fifth home goal came late (85:19), ending any thoughts of a Scarlet and Gold come back.

Bernal led the Wildcats with a pair of goals on five shots. Freshman forward Lorne Bickley (St, Helier, N.J.) was a factor as well with a goal and an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Vinny Tasca (Audubon, Pa.) made two saves and relied on his teammates for a third.

Junior forward Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England), junior defenseman Lindsay Murdoch (Perth, Scotland), and freshman defenseman Michael Roscioli (Turnersville, N.J.) joined Johnson to provide the Griffin response. Senior goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) (0-4) and freshman goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) each played a half. Jackson accounted for all three of the Chestnut Hill College saves.

The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team continues CACC play at Caldwell University on Saturday, September 19, when they visit the Cougars for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
