9/28/2016 9:59:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/28/2016) – Action picked up in the latter half of the first period in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Victory Field #1. Chestnut Hill College answered a pair of Goldey-Beacom College tallies with a double-headed corner that split the Lightning lead for halftime (2-1). Unfortunately, the visitors added another score after intermission, putting the Griffins in a desperate place for the final 23 minutes and settling the league affair by a 3-1 final.

Chestnut Hill College (1-7, 0-5) issued the first volleys of the contest, as a couple of off-sides offensives were followed by an unsuccessful strike from junior forward Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England). The Scarlet and Gold corner that immediately followed bared no fruit as well. Soon after Goldey-Beacom College (6-1-1, 4-0-1) stole the momentum, which grew until junior midfielder Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) scored a ball to the bottom left corner of the Griffin net at 24:46 (1-0). Continued Lightning pressure produced another tally at 32:42 (2-0), when a rebound off senior goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) was centered for a successful strike by junior midfielder Lorenzo Gama (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). A little more than ten minutes later (43:23), a Chestnut Hill College corner from Gray initiated and double-headed goal that first touched the crown of sophomore forward Jason Burns (Douglassville, Pa.) before being redirected for a Scarlet and Gold tally by the oncoming forehead of sophomore defenseman Lindsay Murdoch (Perth, Scotland) (2-1).

After halftime the Lightning added a fourth score. It was the second of the game for Gama, who also led the visitors with four shots. They totaled 20 in all and attempted six corner restarts en route to the CACC win. In goal, sophomore Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) totaled three saves. A fourth save was required from the Goldey-Beacom defense.

Murdoch totaled three shots while, sophomore forward Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) led the Griffins with four. Junior midfielder Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) also offered three shots with Gray, Burns, and junior defenseman Jordan Arpan (Exton, Pa.) providing the remaining Chestnut Hill College shots. Jackson (1-7) recorded eight saves.

The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team continues their four-game home stand with a 12:00 p.m. CACC contest versus Concordia College (NY) on Saturday, October 1.
