Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/28/2016) – Chestnut Hill College fought an uphill battle this evening, looking to rally after an early Goldey-Beacom College goal that stood as the only score in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. The Lightning outshot the Griffins 22-12 en route to the 1-0 league win. Freshman midfielder
Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.) and sophomore midfielder
Molly Sullivan (Pasco, Wash.) led the Scarlet and Gold effort with four shots and three shots, respectively.
Goldey-Beacom College (7-2, 4-1) was the aggressor early, peppering junior goalkeeper
Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) until a play down the left side was scored to the bottom right corner of the Chestnut Hill College (1-7, 0-5) goal by freshman defender Kiera Young (Aberdeen, Md.) at 14:52 (1-0). The Lightning kept the pressure on after the tally, outshooting the Griffins 14-5 in the opening period and holding their 1-0 advantage through intermission.
At the start second half it was Chestnut Hill College who went on the offensive as Shinkowitz and Sullivan headlined the Griffins' rallying energy. But the Lightning defense made sure the Scarlet and Gold offerings sailed high, wide, or to the saving hands of senior goalkeeper Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, Texas) (7-2), who made five saves in the shutout performance.
Young's successful strike and a team-high eight shots from junior midfielder Amy Runciman (Luton, England) headlined the Lightning offering.
Behind Shinkowitz and Sullivan, the Griffins generated an additional five shots. Guagenti (1-6) made four saves in the first half while freshman goalkeeper
Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) stopped two shots in the second stanza.
The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team returns to Victory Field #1 on Saturday, October 1, when they host Concordia College (NY) in a 10:00 a.m. CACC contest.
