Box Score Shippensburg, Pa. - (9/6/2016) – Riding high after their kick-off victory over Barton College, the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team traveled west to visit Shippensburg University for a late-afternoon contest. The Raiders spoiled the Griffins' initial momentum, however, using a shot-heavy attack to score two late first-half goals and facilitate an eventual 4-0 win. Freshman forward
Cecilia DuMond (Philadelphia, Pa.), freshman midfielder
Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.), and junior midfielder
Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.) each recorded a shot for the Scarlet and Gold while junior goalkeeper
Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) (1-1) made 11 saves in the loss.
An early Shippensburg University (2-1) offside allowed Chestnut Hill College (1-1) to launch the first offensive of the engagement. The result was a DuMond strike that ricocheted off a Raider defender before ultimately being cleared. The attempted blast was the Griffins' only missile of the first half, meanwhile the home team finally got their offense organized as play approached the 15-minute mark. Their second shot of the contest was denied by Guagenti at 15:34 and the third shot caromed off the crossbar at 16:38. From there, the Griffin defense slowed the Raiders for few minutes, but their 12
th and 13
th shots of the first half found their respective marks at 38:43 and 39:52 to separate them for a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Griffins got the jump on Shippensburg University again in the second half with Shinkowitz sailing a shot wide before Cobb-Wilkins put one on goal. Unfortunately, junior goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Smyrna, Del.) was there for the only save the Raiders would need in the affair. Another 14 shots wore the Griffin defense thin; it gave way at 57:50 (3-0), when a loose ball was finished by sophomore forward Tori Mills (Hagerstown, Md.) and again at 69:38 (4-0), when sophomore midfielder Lexi Albert (Clear Spring, Md.) completed a corner restart with a header to the back left post.
The Raiders divided their 27 shots among 18 players with three offering three shots apiece. In goal, Kennedy split time with classmate, Leah Roy (Sevens Valley, Pa.) who was awarded the win (2-1) after making her third start of the season.
Chestnut Hill College returns home to open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Saturday, September 10, when Post University visits Victory Field #1 for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
