Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/7/2016) – Chestnut Hill College senior goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) turned aside 11 shots, but it was not enough to defeat the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), who defeated the Griffins, 1-0, in today's overtime final.
Chestnut Hill College (0-2) and NYIT (2-1) battled through a scoreless first half, with NYIT outshooting Chestnut Hill College 9-5 in the frame. NYIT continued to keep the pressure on in the stanza with a 13-5 shooting edge. But Jackson stood tall, sending the game into extra time knotted at 0-0.
NYIT earned a foul just outside of the 18-yard box only 1:18 into the extra frame. Senior defender Ben Wilson (Southampton, England) struck a ball that Jackson parried away, but it unluckily found the foot of sophomore forward Simon-Peter Omooba (London, England) who slid in to left side of the net to clinch the win.
NYIT junior goalkeeper Jonathan Rico (Elmhurst, N.Y.) (2-1) made five saves in the shutout victory. Omooba tallied the lone goal and contributed four shots, while Wilson picked up the assist and added four shots of his own.
Jackson (0-2) stopped 11 shots in the defeat while junior forward
Zachary Gray (W. Sussex, England) posted a Griffin-best three shots. NYIT held a 24-10 edge in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer season opens Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday, September 10, with a 3:00 p.m. contest against Post University.
