Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/11/2017) – On a dreary afternoon, Chestnut Hill College welcomed Wilmington University to the Campus Field for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. The Wildcats surprised the Griffins with a long goal at 21:13 and added a pair of second-half insurance goals for an eventual 3-0 victory. Senior midfielder
Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) took five of the Scarlet and Gold shots in a 28-8 shot deficit, while freshman goalkeeper
Sergio Hernandez (Ossining, N.Y.) made five saves in the loss (0-2).
The first Wilmington University (6-5-3, 6-3) goal stunned both sides early as a common throw-in from junior forward Sam Jester (Middletown, Del.) was sent to the top right corner of the Chestnut Hill College (4-9, 3-6) on a 40-yard, booming kick from sophomore forward Lorne Bickley (St. Helier, Jersey), 1-0 (21:13). The Wildcats continued to keep the Griffins on defense for the remainder of the first half, but Hernandez and the Scarlet and Gold backfield nullified the Wildcats' advances thru to intermission.
After halftime, the Wildcat resumed the theme, leaning on their shot advantage, and pressuring Chestnut Hill College into a costly foul in their own end. The restart was sent out to the right flank, where a tic-tack-toe connection between Bickley, freshman midfielder Jake Meyer (Newark, Del.), and sophomore defenseman Fredrik Bentdal (Lillehammer, Norway) put the Griffins in a 2-0 hole (68:34). As time ticked off the scoreboard, Wilmington University added one more tally as Bickley recorded his four point of the match with a long leading pass that put junior forward Abdul Mansary (London, England) into the box for a successful one-on-one with the Scarlet and Gold keeper, 3-0 (85:27).
Off the bench, sophomore forward Tom Garratt (Kingswinford, England) led the Wildcats in shots with four. Junior goalkeeper Vinny Tasca (Audubon, Pa.) made four saves in the win (6-5-3).
In addition to Casaletto, Chestnut Hill College shots were had by sophomore midfielder
Mo Ehmer (Surrey, England), senior midfielder
Vini Brito (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and junior midfielder
Tyler Johnson (Pitman, N.J.).
