Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/17/2017) – The only goal of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest came in the first 43 seconds (0:43) of the affair as Jefferson University used a deep throw-in to find a head in the box. Unfortunately, the tally stood up in another highly competitive match between Chestnut Hill College and the Rams, 1-0. Senior midfielder
Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) led the Griffin offense with four of their 11 shots, while sophomore goalkeeper
Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) took the loss (4-8) despite making five saves behind a solid Scarlet and Gold backfield performance.
Off the opening kickoff, Jefferson University (11-3-1, 9-0-1) gained a throw-in deep down the right side of the field. Junior defenseman Andrew Sauers (York, Pa.) inbounded the ball to the slashing head of senior midfielder Pedro Neto (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) for the Rams' tally, 1-0 (0:43). In response, Chestnut Hill College (4-11, 3-8) offered the next three shots as strikes by junior defenseman
Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) (3:40) and Casaletto (4:33) respectively blocked and high before a second Casaletto shot died among the Ram defenders almost eight minutes later (12:04). Play evened out from there, but remained spirited throughout the first half. The familiar foes continued to test each others' defenses in the second half, but neither found success, leaving Jefferson University to the league win.
Despite Chestnut Hill College's early aggression, the Rams ended up owning a narrow 13-11 shot advantage. Neto was one of three Rams to record at least two shots. Senior goalkeeper Ben Sauer (Bel Air, Md.) totaled three saves in the win (11-3-1).
In addition to Casaletto's four shots, junior defenseman
Tyler Johnson (Howell, N.J.) offered a pair, and five others each took one.
The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team concludes their CACC schedule on Saturday, October 21, with an 8:00 p.m. contest at Felician University.
