Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (8/31/2017) – The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team opened their season this evening, welcoming Bloomsburg University to the Plymouth Whitemarsh Football Stadium for a non-conference tilt. The Griffins gave a determined effort versus the Huskies, holding the visitors to a 2-1 halftime advantage despite a 19-5 shot differential. Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold defense wore thin in the later frame, resulting in a 34-13 final shot margin and an 8-1 final score. Sophomore midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.) tallied the Griffins' only goal, drawing and converting a penalty kick at 9:11 (1-1).

An early (8:15) Bloomsburg University (1-0) goal by senior midfielder Rachel Yenney (Collegeville, Pa.) gave the Huskies a head start, 1-0. But less than a minute later (9:11), Shinkowitz chased down a loose ball deep in the Bloomsburg University end, gained position on her defender, and drew the foul to earn a free shot on net. She converted the penalty kick (1-1) and inspired Chestnut Hill College (0-1) to battle Huskies for the remainder of the period. Unfortunately, freshman forward Sam Rodkey (Selinsgrove, P.A.) scored the visitor's second goal a few minutes (41:40) before intermission, 2-1. It was not long before the second half took on a different feel as Bloomsburg University's pressure overwhelmed the Griffins and produced five tallies before the 60-minute mark in an eventual 8-1 final.

Yenney led Bloomsburg University with three points, offering two goals and an assist. She also took a team-high six shots. Freshman midfielder Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J.) added two points (1 goal and 1 assist), while four other Huskies added a point apiece. Freshmen Jenna Hawkins (Hamburg, Pa.) and Olivia Schantz (Schnecksville, Pa.) split time in net; the former (63:44) totaled two saves in the win (1-0), while the latter made five saves over the final 26:16.

Shinkowitz, senior defender Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.), junior midfielder Molly Sullivan (Pasco, Wash.), and sophomore midfielder Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) each recorded two shots for Chestnut Hill College. Sophomore goalkeeper Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) made nine saves in the loss (0-1).

The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team returns to action on Thursday, September 7, when Queen College visits the Campus Field for a 4:00 p.m. kick-off.
