Box Score Wilmington, Del. - (9/13/2017) – An own goal put Chestnut Hill College on the scoreboard first in this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Goldey-Beacom College as a corner restart from senior midfielder Vini Brito (Sao Paulo, Brazil) found the goal after a Lightning player attempted to clear the serve with a header. Unfortunately, the home side regrouped, outshooting the Griffins 14-1 in the first half and carrying a 4-1 edge to intermission. The fifth Lightning goal came in the 59th minute (59:21), 5-1, and served as enough insurance to endure the Griffins' fleeting attempts to recover.

Chestnut Hill College (2-3, 1-1) improved their play in the second half, keeping the shot margin to 8-6, Goldey-Beacom College (4-1, 2-0). The Griffins controlled the frame early, earning a trio of corner kicks and issuing a Brito shot before the Lightning extended their lead on an individual effort from senior forward Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain), 5-1. Sanchez stole the ball off a Scarlet and Gold defender and scored his second goal of the affair on an empty net.

Sanchez's first goal was the Lightning's fourth of the first half. There, Goldey-Beacom College tied the contest at 1-1 on a long pass from senior defenseman Alvaro Martinez (Zaragoza, Spain) that was struck to goal by junior midfielder Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) at 11:15. After a 20 minute stalemate (31:46), the Lightning struck again this time on an unassisted effort by sophomore midfielder Levi Maruca (Downingtown, Pa.), 2-1. The next two Goldey-Beacom College tallies were not far behind with Aghrim scoring his second on a header at 34:18 (3-1) and Sanchez converting a rebound off a saved Aghrim shot at 41:28 (4-1).

Aghrim totaled five points (2 goals and 1 assist) and led Goldey-Beacom College with five of their 22 shots. Junior goalkeeper Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) recorded one save in the win (4-1).

Brito and junior forward Jason Burns (Douglassville, Pa.) each recorded two shots to lead Chestnut Hill College; senior forward Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England), junior midfielder Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland), and sophomore defender Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) were responsible for the other three Griffin shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) made seven saves in the loss (2-3).

The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team returns to the Campus Field this Saturday, September 16, to host Dominican College in a 2:00 p.m. CACC contest.
