Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/18/2017) – The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team fell to Shippensburg University in this evening's non-conference contest by a narrow 1-0 margin, after fending off a heavy Raider shot advantage for the first 64 minutes of the affair. Senior defender
Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) headlined the Griffins' scoring chances with three while sophomore goalkeeper
Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) kept the Scarlet and Gold in contention with a career, and season-high 13 saves.
Shippensburg University (2-3-1) served an abundance of shots early and continued to prod the Chestnut Hill College (1-4) defense throughout the first half. Fortunately, despite an 18-5 shot advantage, the Raiders could not figure out how to penetrate the Scarlet and Gold, sending several shots high and wide of their mark and leaving the contest scoreless at intermission.
For the duration of the second half, the Raiders continued the offensive pressure. The Griffins met them at every opportunity, until a Shippensburg University corner ricocheted off several defenders and a few of their own players before crossing the goal line off the head of junior midfielder Lexi Albert (Clear Spring, Md.), 1-0 (64:21). After the goal Chestnut Hill College looked for the equalizer with more offensive intensity; a late shot from junior midfielder
Macailagh Smith (Red Bank, N.J.) sailed just inches over the crossbar (86:10) and another from freshman forward
Gabby Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J.) was denied by the Raider keeper (88:12) to preserve the visitor's victory.
Shippensburg University was led by sophomore forward Isabella Weigel (Chamberburg, Pa.), who totaled six shots. She was followed by classmate Kelsy Fitzgerald (Bear, De.), who took five. Junior defender Beth McGee (Harleysville, Pa.) recorded two shots and provided the assist on the game-winning-goal. Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Merwin (Waldorf, Md.) made three saves in the win (1-0).
Jazikoff led the Griffins with three shots, both Fanfarillo and junior midfielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) offered two shots. Despite her 13 saves, Peshkin took the loss (0-3).
