Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/20/2017) – Another hot afternoon welcomed Roberts Wesleyan College to the Chestnut Hill College Campus Field for today's non-conference contest. All the scoring came in the opening half as the Griffins fell behind on an own goal, before senior midfielder
Vini Brito (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored a carom off a Redhawk defenseman for his fourth goal of the season. Unfortunately, a brief lapse in the Scarlet and Gold defense allowed the visitors to record the game-winner before the 40
th-minute (39:27), 2-1. Brito took four shots to score his tally, but senior midfielder
Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) led the Griffins in shots with five of their 24.
Chestnut Hill College (3-4) spotted Roberts Wesleyan College (2-5) the lead just before the 21-minute mark (20:52) with an own goal on a deep visitor throw-in, 1-0. Less than a minute later (21:50), Brito gathered a loose ball off of a Roberts Wesleyan College defenseman and scored the equalizer, 1-1. The Redhawks' game-winner manifested midway through the 39
th-minute (39:27), when junior defensemen Matt Ketzer (Averill Park, N.Y.) dribbled the ball into the Scarlet and Gold box and found senior midfielder Logan Wood (Hornell, N.Y.) for one touch to the back of the net, 2-1.
The Scarlet and Gold felt the urgency late in the second half as they eventually outshot the Redhawks 15-4 in the period – and 24-11 overall. Other than a few uncompleted crosses, sophomore forward
Samuel Mitcho (Pitman, N.J.) offered two of the Griffins' better chances, but both were saved by senior goalkeeper John Ciavaglia (Pittsford, N.Y.).
Ciavaglia totaled seven saves in the win (2-5), while senior defenseman Sam Moody (Toronto, Canada) led Roberts Wesleyan College with three shots. Wood offered two and six others took one apiece.
Behind Brito and Casaletto, six other Griffins recorded at least two shots. Sophomore midfielder
Matthew Kemerer (Latrobe, Pa.) issued the remaining one on a mid first-half restart (28:43). Freshman goalkeeper
Sergio Hernandez (Ossining, N.Y.) took the loss (0-1) despite making five saves in his first collegiate appearance.
The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Saturday, September 23, when they visit Post University for a 3:00 p.m. affair.
