Casasanto Scores Chestnut Hill College’s Lone Goal in 5-1 Loss at Post University

Box Score Waterbury, Conn. - (9/23/2017) – Chestnut Hill College hit the road to battle for today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Post University. Senior midfielder Julianna Casasanto (Philadelphia, Pa.) offered one goal and junior midfielder Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) attempted to add two shots for the Scarlet and Gold and but unfortunately her efforts denied. Sophomore goalkeeper Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) recorded 12 saves in an intrepid attempt to keep the Griffins afloat despite 29-3 Eagle shot advantage that precipitated a 5-1 home final.
 
Post University (3-5, 3-1) took their first round of shots early, the aggression earned a free kick in Chestnut Hill College (1-6, 1-3) territory for freshman midfielder Fenna Maarse (Hilversum, Netherlands). She completed the restart to produce the first goal of the contest, 1-0. The Eagles' abundance of shots continued, testing the Griffin defense, until one of the assaults ended with a 30-yard finish from midfielder senior Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany), 2-0 (26:30).
 
Early in the second half (46:24), an untimely rebound resulted in a goal from sophomore forward Hope Wilson (Mahopac, N.Y.) and darkened Chestnut Hill College's chances for a recovery, 3-0. O'Toole landed the Griffins a scoring opportunity, but it was denied by junior goalkeeper Cailah Baranowski (Naugatuck, Conn.). Peshkin collected five saves in the latter period but the Eagles' superior shot total allowed them to tally two more goals, 5-0 (59:29 & 71:50), before the late Casasanto tally rejected the Eagle shutout, 5-1 (84:10).
 
Maarse led Post University with two goals. She also took a team-high eight shots. Sophomore midfielder Bryanna D'Arcangelo (Bridgeport, Conn.), Mertz, and Wilson each recorded one goal. Freshman Hannah Richards (Huddersfield, England) and Baranowski split time in goal; Richards earned the win (3-4) while Baranowski recorded the Eagles' only save.
 
Casasanto's only shot resulted in the goal and O'Toole was responsible for the other two Chestnut Hill College shots. Despite a dozen (12) saves, Peshkin took the loss (1-5) for the Scarlet and Gold.
 
The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team returns to the Campus Field on Tuesday, September 26, to host Georgian Court University in a 4:00 p.m. CACC contest.
