Buscemi and Casaletto Headline Chestnut Hill College Senior Successes in 3-1 CACC Win Over Warriors

Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer Senior Day 2017
Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/27/2017) – Senior midfielder Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) did what he does best – score game-winning-goals – as the Chestnut Hill College captain collected a long serve from junior midfielder Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and beat a Nyack College defender for the clincher in their afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) fray. Casaletto was the second of two seniors to score in the affair, which served as Senior Day and a Red Card Cancer event; the other was senior forward Mike Buscemi (Rockville, Md.) who won a ping-pong competition for the Griffins' first goal (15:05).

Buscemi was denied on his initial strike and his responsorial header, before putting a second nod to past the Nyack College (4-5-1, 2-4) goalkeeper at 15:05, 1-0. The tremendous individual effort gave Chestnut Hill College (4-6, 3-3) the momentum to strike again before halftime. Casaletto was the weapon of choice, settling a Domingues serve, and deking a Warrior defenseman, before giving the Griffins a 2-0 advantage at 35:22. Unfortunately, Nyack College narrowed the gap back to a single goal, 2-1, a little less than four minutes later (39:19). The Griffins' insurance goal came late in the second half, when freshman forward Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) completed a rebound from an initial Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England) attempt at 81:47, 3-1.

The Nyack College tally was scored by senior midfielder Francios Legoedec (Rouen, France), who converted a cross from senior forward Finn Reese (Hamburg, Germany) at 39:39. Fellow senior forwards Jack Henley (Belper, England) and Samuel Viau (Stormville, N.Y.) recorded three shots apiece, while sophomore goalkeeper Alvaro Magel (Hamburg, Germany) made seven saves in the loss (4-5-1).

Senior forward Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England) kept the Warrior defense busy with a team-high seven shots. Five others; a group including Buscemi, Casaletto, Marra, senior midfielder Vini Brito (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman midfielder Tom McHale (Blue Bell, Pa.), recorded at least two shots for the Scarlet and Gold. Sophomore goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned the win (4-5) with five saves.

Prior to the start of this afternoon's affair, Chestnut Hill College honored their Class of 2017, consisting of Brito, Buscemi, Casaletto, Gray, and defenseman Brendan Griffiths (Niskayuna, N.Y.). Donations for Red Card Cancer were collected throughout the CACC soccer doubleheader and totaled $650 in total by day's end.

The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, October 3 with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Holy Family University.
