Megan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) valiantly defended the Chestnut Hill College goal in this afternoon's affair versus Queens College. The Knights owned a 28-6 shot advantage, but were not able to beat the Griffin backfield until the second half. Morgan Ruth (Blackwood, N.J.) was aggressive for the Scarlet and Gold, accounting for four of their six shots in the contest.
After the initial back-and-forth, Queens College (1-3) consistently put offensive pressure on Chestnut Hill College (0-2). The Knights owned a 14-2 shot advantage in the first half and kept the ball in the Griffins' end for much of the period. Guagenti and the Chestnut Hill College defense – captained by seniors
Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.) and
Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) – denied the Knights' advances and kept the contest scoreless through intermission.
Chestnut Hill College's spirits were high at the start of the second half, unfortunately freshman midfielder Hannah Gallivan (Buffalo, N.Y.) completed a cross from senior forward Erin Vernillo (Smithtown, N.Y.) at 47:40 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Griffins shook off the tally and defended several Knight assaults, including a hard strike from Vernillo at 68:22 that Guagenti saved with an exceptional diving effort. With time winding down, Chestnut Hill College made one final attack on the Queens College goal. Junior midfielder
Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.) hit the post at 86:07 and Ruth drove another ball high at 86:12, but the Griffins could not cash in. Soon after (86:35), sophomore midfielder Guro Eriksen (Drammen, Norway) added the insurance goal for the Knights, cementing their win, 2-0.
Vernillo led the Knights with six shots. Three others, including Eriksen, offered three apiece. Senior goalkeeper senior Nicole Cranny (Abbeyleix, Ireland) totaled two saves for her first win (1-3) of the season.

Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) accounted for the other two Chestnut Hill College strikes. Guagenti made 11 saves in the loss (0-1).
The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team returns to the Campus Field this Saturday, September 9, when they open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 1:00 p.m. contest versus Caldwell University.
