Griffins Give Way to Knights, 6-1

Flushing, N.Y. – (9/26/2018) – The Chestnut Hill College defense withstood the Queens College barrage for the first 30 minutes of this afternoon's contest, but at 38:14 the Knights netted the first of six tallies in an eventual 6-1 triumph. Freshman forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.), junior forward Nicole Cahill (Glendora, N.J.), and senior midfielder Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) each recorded two shots, while junior Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) (2-4) and freshman Kayla Lombardi (South Amboy, N.J.) split the 90 minutes in goal.

The Queens College (2-4-1) offense started to control the contest just after the 10-minute mark (10:05), issuing a series of shots that ended with an unassisted tally from freshman midfielder Christina Loizou (South Huntington, N.Y.) at 38:14, 1-0. The Knights added to their lead over to Chestnut Hill College (2-6) just a little more than a minute later (39:38), when Loizou located graduate midfielder Vincenza DeCrescenzo (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) for a successful shot to the left corner, 2-0. The home team added a goal to their advantage just after halftime (3-0, 47:25), but soon after (48:09), Jimenez launched a 30-yard blast over the head of the Knight goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 3-1. After intermission, the shot differential narrowed, unfortunately, Queens College junior midfielder Guro Eriksen (Roeyken, Norway) made the most of her attempts as she scored back-to-back tallies at 71:35 (4-1) and 74:50 to extend the Knights' lead to 5-1, before a late home goal pushed the final spread to 6-1.

Eriksen took nine shots and Loizou another seven to headline the Queens College attack. In goal, freshman Shenae Kreps (Nampa, Idaho) and sophomore Nikoletta Pravata (Bayside, N.Y.) split the 90 minutes; the former earned the win (2-4-1) with one save in the opening 45.

For the Griffins, Peshkin made four saves in the opening 45 minutes, while Lombardi totaled three during her second-half relief.

Chestnut Hill College resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Saturday, September 29, when they welcome Post University for a 1:00 p.m. contest at Victory Field #1.
