Nyack, N.Y. – (4/27/2019) – Setting a program mark for Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins and ensuring themselves a berth in their first-ever league championship, Chestnut Hill College swept Nyack College in today's doubleheader. A fourth-inning, three-run home run from senior left fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) gave sophomore Kaley Wise (Hamilton, N.J.) enough run support to earn a 4-1 victory in game one, while a game-two power surge that included long balls from senior catcher Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth. N.J.), senior first baseman Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.), and freshman right fielder Victoria Grillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) helped the Griffins' complete the CACC sweep with a 12-6 victory.
 
Chestnut Hill College (18-22, 13-13) took their initial, game-one lead over Nyack College (15-29, 12-14) with a third-inning leadoff home run from senior second baseman Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), 1-0. They added to their lead with a three-run fourth inning; the frame started with a leadoff walk to junior shortstop Alessandra Messina (Ambler, Pa.) and continued with a Riotte double to right field, and a home run to right field from Magee, 4-0. The Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, 4-1, but the tally was not enough to derail the Griffins from victory. The win not only gave Wise (11-8) the program record for single-season wins, but also tied the program record for conference wins. Wise surrendered only an unearned run on four hits, while striking out seven.
 
Game two turned into a slugfest, which was initiated by a four-run Chestnut Hill College second inning. Riotte led off the at-bat with a home run, 1-0, which was followed with singles from Magee and Swanek, a sacrifice bunt from Sauer, a run-scoring ground out from freshman designated player Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) (2-0), and a two-run home run from Grillo; the first of her collegiate career, 4-0. Unfortunately, Nyack College scored a run in the bottom of the frame, 4-1, and took the lead with a five-run third inning, 6-4. The Scarlet and Gold answered with a four-run fourth inning that included a run-scoring Warrior error, a run-scoring single from senior third baseman Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.), and a two-run double from sophomore centerfielder Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.), 8-6. The Griffins added two more runs in the fifth inning (10-6) and two more runs in the seventh inning (12-6) that gave senior reliever Jessica Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) and the bullpen enough support to preserve the win. Heaton (2-1) allowed one run on two hits and a walk, while striking out one over three innings. Seniors, Hunter Irvin (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) held the Warriors scoreless over the final two frames. Winn (3-for-5) and Grillo (3-for-4) headlined four Griffins who recorded multiple hits. Riotte (2-for-4) recorded the 100th hit of her collegiate career with a leadoff home run in the second inning and the win set the program mark for CACC wins in a single season.
 
Chestnut Hill College awaits the conclusion of the CACC regular season for their seeding in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament, which will take place on Thursday, May 2, through Saturday, May 4, at Georgian Court University as part of the CACC Spring Championship Festival.
