Scarlet and Gold Soars Past Lions in Six-Goal Shutout

Lincoln, Pa. - (9/11/2019) – Scoring three goals in each half, Chestnut Hill College evened their early-season record at 1-1 with this evening's 6-0 shutout at Lincoln University. The Lions were able to hold of the Griffin onslaught until after the 30th minute mark as sophomore forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) played freshman forward Riley Regan (Philadelphia, Pa.) for a breakaway goal at 30:52 (1-0). The Scarlet and Gold added a second goal at 35:34 (2-0) and was the benefactor of an own goal at 39:18 (3-0), before doubling their lead in the second half. Senior forward Nicole Cahill (Glendora, N.J.) was the Griffins' top performer with a pair of goals and an assist.

Chestnut Hill College (1-1) was the aggressor from the start as the Scarlet and Gold drew some offside calls in the process of junior forward Gab Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J.), Jimenez, and Cahill keeping the Lincoln University (0-2) goalkeeper busy. Senior Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill.) made eight saves in the period, but the Lions' dam broke with Regan's first collegiate goal at 30:52 (1-0). The Scarlet and Gold built on the momentum with a one-touch tally from senior defender Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) to Cahill at 35:34 (2-0). The own goal pushed the Chestnut Hill College lead to 3-0 (39:18), where it stayed until after halftime. In the second half, Cahill found Jimenez at 50:53 (4-0) and scored her second goal on a cross from Fanfarillo at 69:23 to extend the Griffins' advantage to 5-0. The sixth Scarlet and Gold goal came at 80:09 (6-0), when Fanfarillo finished a pass from Regan.

Sophomore forward Kenya Davis (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and sophomore defender Tamara Evans (Clayton, Del.) each took two of Lincoln University's five shots. Rodriguez (0-2) made a dozen (12) saves in the loss.

Jimenez and Cahill each took six of the Griffins' 25 shots; Fanfarillo and Regan took five apiece and the other three came one apiece from DiRugeris, junior midfielder Marisa Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.), and sophomore midfielder Madison Taylor (Bensalem, Pa.). Junior goalkeeper Amanda Ianniciello (Milton, Ontario) (1-1) made two saves in the shutout victory.

Chestnut Hill College continues their schedule on Friday, September 13, when they return to Victory Field #1 for a 6:00 p.m. contest versus Salem International University.
